Tecnotessile is a national research company established in 1972, according to the Italian Law no. 1089-68, establishing a special Fund for Applied Research.
Tecnotessile represents a reference point for research and technological innovation in the textile and textile machinery sectors.
It is enrolled in the register of the authorised laboratories as in Italian Law no. 46-1982, art. 4.

Tecnotessile`s founders were IMI bank, Florence Chamber of Commerce, Prato Savings Bank and Prato Industrial Association.
Nowadays Tecnotessile`s capital is shared among several partners both public and private (textile, textile machinery and industrial software Italian Companies).

At first Tecnotessile mainly operated in the industrial district of Prato (Italy); later the field of action has been widened to the whole national territory and to foreign countries. From 1972 to 2000, Tecnotessile participated in over 40 research projects within the textile, chemical-textile and textile machinery sectors.At present, Tecnotessile carries out several research projects concerning the textile and textile machinery industry. Services offered to customers are:
· textile technologies consulting, from raw materials to final products;
· mechanical devices design, machinery development and process automation;
· applied research project and technological transfer;
· training for technicians and researchers for textile and textile machinery industry;
· experimental testing of textile machines and processes;·internationalisation projects;
· computers technologies integration and development, CAD applications, machinery and process control;
· laboratory tests, carried out in a well equipped technological and textile-chemical laboratory, provided with the most up-to-date appliances for tests on fibres, yarns and fabrics;
· scientific, technical and economic information using libraries and data-bases;·development of Quality System according to the ISO 9000 Standards;
· R&D; projects for wastewater treatment and reuse;
· technical-financial and technical-administrative services to firms for the access and the carrying out of applied research programs, financed by Italian or European Institutions. Since 2001, Tecnotessile has been found to conform to the Quality System Standard ISO 9001: 2000 in the following fields:
- design and development of applied research activities in the textile, machinery, automation and materials sectors;
- provision of services concerning chemical testing activities for textile sector;
- provision of consulting services for Quality System development;
- provision of services of training courses for the textile and textile machinery sector.
