PURATREAT — Final Report Summary
Source: CORDIS EU Research Results
The Puratreat project studied a new approach to the operation of membrane bioreactors for decentralised wastewater treatment in peri-urban areas of the Mediterranean basin and Middle East (MENA countries), where water scarcity is a critical challenge.
The project compared the performance of MBR bioreactors under conventional and specially adapted operating conditions, evaluating the most advanced membrane technologies available. Key objectives included achieving minimum energy consumption and maintenance requirements suitable for areas with limited public expenditure.
The project website www.puratreat.com was launched in October 2006 and attracted visitors from 66 countries across five continents during the second reporting period, with nearly 4,000 users, demonstrating wide international interest in the technology for developing regions.
