EUROMBRA — Final Report Summary
Source: CORDIS EU Research Results
The overall objective of EUROMBRA was to develop a cost-effective, sustainable solution for new, efficient and advanced municipal wastewater treatment based on MBR technology. The project addressed the key limiting phenomena of fouling and clogging observed and quantified on the micro-, meso- and macro-scale.
EUROMBRA brought together 17 partners from across Europe, including universities, research institutes, and industrial companies. The research programme explicitly linked specialist knowledge on hydrodynamics and mass transfer, foulant speciation, and dynamic impacts to advance both system design and operational aspects of MBR technology for full-scale municipal wastewater treatment.
The project contributed significantly to the understanding of MBR fouling mechanisms and provided practical strategies for cost reduction in full-scale MBR installations, directly supporting the European Water Framework Directive objectives.
