Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) 2-day CPD short course
Date 17.7.2006 - 18.7.2006
Category Training course
City / Conutry Cranfield / United Kingdom
Information Membrane bioreactor technology represents the most rapidly growing membrane technology in the water sector, with an estimated global market of US$ 216.6 million in 2005 rising at an average annual growth rate of 10.9% and an expected value of US$ 363 million in 2010. The advantages offered by the technology over conventional processes have been discussed at length: these include small footprint, greatly enhanced effluent quality and greater process control through uncoupling of solids and hydraulic retention time. Moreover, the decrease in both membrane and process operating costs since the introduction of the submerged technology in 1990 have led to increased economic viability at ever larger scales.

This course brings together relevant biological and membrane treatment operating fundamentals, the latest process developments and operational experiences from around the world. It was the first course in the world to bring all this knowledge together, and is now in its sixth year, supplemented with a brand new publication written by the course leader.

The MBR course is designed for a wide range of people in the water and wastewater field including treatment design engineers, operators and managers of treatment plants, consulting engineers and researchers, who have an interest in membrane bioreactors. The main types of membrane bioreactors are described. Fundamentals of membranes and biological processes required to understand membrane bioreactors. The remainder of the course focuses on the different types of membrane bioreactor processes available; their design and operation, the latest developments and their commercial application, including process economics.
